Sharing is Caring: Demonoid

Demonoid Demon

This sexy little demon is my best friend on the Internet. Sorry Facebook friends, this guy does more for me than all 281 of you combined. He is the character of the Torrent website Demonoid, perhaps the single best resource available on the Internet for speedy downloads of valuable content. Whether you want the Arctic Monkey’s  new album (Humbug) a month before it is released, the entire series collecton of Showtime’s Dexter, or the newest version of Microsoft’s Windows Operating System “Windows 7″, you can almost be guaranteed to find it over at Demonoid. I mean sure there are hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of Torrent-based download websites available on the web, such as the infamously ubiquitous ThePirateBay.org, or the lesser-known-but-still-widely-used Mininova.org, but what set’s Demonoid apart from the majority of these sites, is that YOU cannot use it…

That is of course, unless you are invited to join the party. You see, Demonoid requires its users to register before they can start downloading content, and registration has been closed for as long as I remember. That might seem like bullshit to many of you, but it’s Invitation-Only system is what keeps the downloads as fast as possible on the internet, as users are held accountable for sharing with other’s as much as they are shared with. If your ratio of upload-to-download is lopsided because you like to take from the system but not put back into it, Demonoid will suspend your account, and new invitations are hard to come by, so much so that it is common to see people begging on Forums for them.

I use the site mainly to fuel my gas-guzzling music collection, and in that respect it is truly the cream-of-the-crop as far as peer-to-peer downloading is concerned…They  just seem to have EVERYTHING you can want, no matter how obscure the artist, or how strange your taste. In all I have taken a healthy 100gb from the system, and put back into it about an equal amount. This is possible because I do not just download an artists newly released album, but backtrack and take their entire discography with me on my portable hard drive and laptop. These discography’s are available for essentially every single musician you can think of, and often include rarities and B-sides that are extremely hard to come by. If you are not familiar with the “torrent” system, a torrent is basically a small file you download that contains a link to whoever uploads its file or files, and are handled by torrent programs such as uTorrent for Windows, or Transmission for Mac. This is by far the fastest and most efficient way to download large files from other users, because once you finish downloading the file, you continue to upload it to others, and the more people that download it – the faster the download gets.

Now I’m finished with all the nerdy shit, the fact is that if you want music or movies – this is the place to get it. Now to be completely fair, downloading copyrighted material through this medium is ILLEGAL, and you do face a small risk of being sued by participating. However, with literally hundreds of millions of torrent users worldwide, you would have to be among the most unlucky motherfuckers in the world to get caught.

Demonoid registrations do open up to the public, but like I said I haven’t seen it happen in years, so if you are a friend of mine looking to get in on the action, comment me on Facebook and I’ll send you an invitation code. If you need any help getting started with torrents, there is tons of information available with a simple Google Search, and I have no problem giving you some instruction as well. I only get a certain number of invitation codes per month, so I will give them out on a first-come-first-serve basis, or just depending on who I like more.

Demonoid has an amazing community of music fans, and I highly recommend using it to all music junkies…I have gotten several friends hooked on it, I wouldn’t be writing about it if it wasn’t something great. Do yourself a favor and get in on it.
